Raising Children in 21st Century
“Parenting is the easiest thing in the world to have an opinion about, but the hardest thing in the world to do.” - Matt Wash
Parenting is perhaps the most challenging task in the modern times. Rapid changes in the lifestyles, growing demands, busy schedule, work pressure, tough competition, and many other things put forward multiple challenges to parents. The 21st parents are more educated than ever, but at the same time they have to deal with the children who are also smarter and more sensible than ever. Thus, raising children in the 21st century is a stressful and challenging task.
The following are the few important keys to raising your 21st century children.
Understand your children better:
A child is just like a soft clay, who takes the shape just the way you mould him. Therefore, understanding your child is of utmost importance for all parents. When you do not understand your children, you may misinterpret or misjudge them. Show interest in what your children are doing or saying. Make sure you do not judge your child; instead simply observe and know them better.
Do not try to provide all comforts:
Parenting doesn’t just mean to provide comforts for your children. When your children will start their own journey, you cannot always be there to comfort them. Instead support them emotionally and provide them a sense of security that whenever your child needs you, you will be there whatever will the situation be.
Inculcate moral values in them:
When we were kids, our parents used to tell bedtime stories and taught us to be honest, respectful, kind, and helpful. But our children are only open to hi-tech devices and gadgets. Studies have shown that lack of moral principles is the reason why kids get into unwanted activities and acquiring unaccepted behavior patterns. Thus, being a parent, it is our utmost duty to make our children good human beings.
Spend quality time:
In the modern society, both the parents need to work to accomplish the economic stability of the family. Thus, it is very important to maintain a work-life balance. Kids are to be considered important elements of life and you should give ample time to them. You should also teach them ways of being self-sufficient when you are away.
In addition to time, patience is also the key element of successful parenting. Each child learns at their own pace; thus, you need to be patient while dealing with your children.
