Vaccination for Kids during Lockdown

During these difficult times, as COVID – 19 pandemic distresses the world, it is very important for us to protect our children the best possible way we can. The early years, especially the first five years of life are very important for building children’s good health. Vaccination or immunization is a simple and effective way of protecting children from serious diseases. Vaccines protect against more than 25 critical diseases, including measles, polio, tetanus, diphtheria, meningitis, influenza, tetanus, typhoid and cervical cancer. Most of a child’s vaccinations are completed between birth and the first five years.
Considering the lockdown and pandemic, many of the parents might have delayed the doses of vaccinations of their children. However, primary vaccinations given to infants and newborns cannot be avoided at any cost. Therefore, all important vaccinations mentioned in the vaccination schedule must be given especially to newborn babies. The primary vaccinations within the first four months after birth are extremely important. These are DPT, HIB, Polio, Hepatitis B, pneumococcal and rotavirus vaccines.
Now, since the government has given some relaxations in lockdown, it is important to make up missed immunizations. Make sure to fix a prior appointment with the paediatrician instead of visiting him/her directly.
